I was shocked to learn that there are over one million large animal road collisions yearly in the U.S! Luckily, a solution has been introduced that could drastically decrease the number of wildlife collisions, making the highways safer for all – wildlife, and humans. In 2021, the Wildlife Crossings Program was introduced which provided funding for underpasses, overpasses, and fencing structures along busy roads where wildlife were known to pass, creating a way for them to pass safely from one side to the other without risk of vehicle collision. These structures were successful in decreasing the number of wildlife-vehicle collisions in those areas! The Wildlife Road Crossings Program Reauthorization Act would extend this program and ensure that these wildlife crossing structures along busy roads are able to continue being built. By clicking the link below, you’ll be able to learn more about this through World Wildlife Fund’s action page, and can even take action by urging congress to support this act! You’ll find a letter to congress already created for you. If you choose to send the letter as-is, it’s as simple as adding your information and pushing send! (Though, personalizing the message to share why this issue is important to YOU is always recommended!)
