Did you know that Petland is the only remaining large-scale U.S. pet store to still sell puppies?
Did you also know that undercover investigations conducted over many, many years have exposed Petland for inhumane practices including neglecting to provide timely and quality veterinary care, poor sanitation, and crammed living quarters? Undercover investigators for the Humane World for Animals have documented sick puppies not receiving proper veterinary care, and the poor conditions in which these puppies live. These puppies are born within a mass-breeding operation, from which their mother will often spend her whole life in a cage. Why, in 2026, is this still happening?
Petland operates internationally, and only the Canadian stores have successully modified their practices to no longer sell cats and dogs. But this means there IS hope for change on a larger scale! Canada made this transition over 10 years ago. It’s time for the U.S. and other countries to get on board.
For anyone who would like to urge Petland to stop selling puppies, you can do so by calling the number provided in the Humane World for Animals’ article linked below. Additionally, you can send a message by signing the petition, which can also be found in the link below.
